“Gus?”
“Hmm?” He murmured as he drove, not looking over.
She took a breath. “I wanted to ask you something.”
He quickly glanced over at her. After a moment, he asked, “Yeah?”
“You remember that night?”
“That night?”
“Yeah,” she paused, her hands clasping together in her lap. “It keeps coming back to me.”
“Oh?”
“I can’t get it out of my mind!” She said in a torrent of words. He looked over at her, his brows raised. “I did that, okay? I feel terrible! Like I cheated on you!”
“Hey! We’ve been over this, you didn’t…”
She cut him off. “I know that!” She took a breath. “Sorry,” she continued in a calmer voice, “I know I didn’t actually cheat. But there’s still a feeling, deep down inside me I can’t shake.
“Look. Jake and I did it. I don’t remember, and he says he doesn’t either. All I do remember is the last bit, and that’s really hazy. I told you about it.”
Gus nodded. “Yeah, you did,” he said quietly.
She looked over at him, and he turned. He saw the start of tears in her eyes, and he put his hand over hers.
“Gus, I need something. Something to get over what’s been eating at me inside.”
“What’s that?” He asked in a guarded tone.
“I think Jake and I need to do it,” she said softly, watching him. He drove on in silence, and after a few moments, she went on. “I think if we did, when we were aware and willing, then it would fill in this missing part of my memory, or something.
“I think it would make what keeps bothering me go away.” She looked at his face, but he still drove on. “Does that make sense?”
At least he’s not mad. I think.
“I feel cheated. And… I feel raped.”
He turned quickly to her, his brows furrowed, the pain evident in his eyes. “Oh, baby,” he said, his voice hitching as his hand squeezed hers.
“I mean raped by that damn drug someone slipped us. Not Jake,” she hurried on. “He was just as messed up as the rest of us. All of us.
“And I’ve been thinking a lot about this. If I can get some sort of closure, then… it’ll all go away. It won’t eat at me anymore.”
She sighed deeply, then looked forward and waited.
After longer than she liked, Gus slowly started to nod. His hand never left hers.
He took a deep breath, then let it out. “I get it,” he said slowly. Looking over at her, she saw his love for her in his eyes. “I’m so damn sorry that stuff happened.”
“Me too. But we didn’t know.”
Nodding, he said, “Yeah, we didn’t. None of us.” They drove on for a while, then he asked, “You really think this’ll help?”
“I do,” she said softly, looking down at their hands.
He pursed his lips, then said quietly, “Okay.”
She looked over at him. “Really? You won’t be mad at me?”
“No. I hear you. And in a way, I understand.” He looked over at her again, then back at the road.
“Look, I know it wasn’t anything even remotely close to what happened to you, but in a small way, what Jenny tried to do to me… well, that was a form of violation, too.”
Lois nodded. “Yeah, it was,” she said softly.
“I want you to know I’ve never gone after her. I’ve never… initiated anything.”
“I know, Gus.”
“Good.”
“You know,” she said, her voice lifting a little with a hint of teasing. “This means you and Jenny will have to find something to do, too.”
He looked over at her, his brows high.
“You didn’t think of that?” she laughed.
“Um.” His cheeks turned pink.
She laughed. “I thought so!”
“What if they don’t want to?”
Lois chuckled, a low sound. “Do you really think they’ll say no?”
Gus smiled, his head tilted to the side slightly. “Yeah…” His smile left his face. “What about Stacy?”
“I talked to her right before we left, told her basically what I just said to you. She understands, and agrees with me.”
“Oh… good.” Gus nodded as he drove.
“Let’s see where tonight goes, okay?” she asked.
Gus nodded. “You know something?”
“What?”
“Life’s never boring around you!” he laughed.

“Hi, guys!” Jenny exclaimed, grinning broadly as she ushered them inside. She hugged Lois tightly for a few moments, then released her. Jake was a step behind his girlfriend and wrapped her up in a brief hug.
Gus followed Lois in, getting a warm, but chaste, embrace from Jenny, and a handshake from Jake.
“Come in, guys, so glad you’re here!” Jake told them as they walked into the living room.
Jenny and Jake quickly showed them around the small apartment. There was a kitchen off to the right. Directly before them was a living room with a sliding glass door leading out onto their ground floor patio.
Gus and Lois sat on the couch against one wall, and Jenny and Jake snuggled in a wide plush chair nearby, both angled to face the television and stereo against the wall.
Jake got them drinks and enjoyed some snacks as they sat around talking about what had been going on in their lives.
When the timer went off, Jenny went into the kitchen, and with Jake’s help, put the food out onto the table. She called them over to eat.
After some time, Lois patted her stomach and grinned. “That was amazing! What did you say it was?”
“Chicken Piccata,” Jenny said.
“Wow! That was awesome,” Gus added.
“Thanks, guys,” Jenny grinned at them from across the dining room table.
“More wine?” Jake asked as he lifted the bottle. They both held theirs out, and he filled them.
“We should go outside, it’s nice out there at night,” Jake said. They gathered up the remaining food and quickly put it away, then took a fresh bottle of wine and their glasses out to the patio.
Outside was a small table surrounded by four comfortable outdoor chairs, spread evenly around it. Their patio had lines of small lights strung overhead, casting a warm glow. Fencing on either side gave them privacy, with the back open to a grassy area between the buildings.
They sat and sipped their wine, relaxing as soft music from the stereo filtered through the screen door behind them.

Lois looked around at the others. Her heart fluttered in her chest as her fingers twirled the stem of the wineglass. A lull had fallen over their conversation.
“Jake,” Lois said, looking over at him on her right. “I need to say something. About that night.” He looked back at her, his eyes soft. “I feel violated by what happened,” she started.
“Lois, I’m so sorry,” he said quietly, but with feeling as he interrupted her. Jenny stirred in her chair across the table from her.
She shook her head quickly. “No! I’m not saying it was you!” She took a breath. “I mean, by the drug that we all took. Against our will.
“It wasn’t your fault.” She looked over at Jenny, catching her eye. “I know that. What I’m saying is we all did things we didn’t plan on, or could stop, really.”
“I’m so happy to hear you say that,” Jake said.
“And I’m sorry for bringing it up. I know we talked about it last week at the house,” she looked over at Jenny, then Jake.
“It’s okay,” Jake told her. “That was some serious shit.”
Lois chuckled. “Yeah, it was, and I should apologize to you, too.”
He looked over at her, surprised. “Me?”
Lois nodded, grinning. “Yeah, for teasing you so much.”
Jake laughed, and the others joined in. “That’s alright,” he chuckled. “I enjoyed it.”
“I could tell,” Lois murmured as she sipped her wine. “You always made sure I felt it whenever you hugged me.”
“Well,” Jake countered, smiling, “you’d rub those knockers against me. What’s a guy supposed to do?”
“You slut,” Jenny laughed, slapping Jake’s arm. “You actually rubbed her boobies?”
Jake grinned and shrugged. “Oh, yeah?” He looked over at Jenny, one eyebrow raised. “Don’t tell me you didn’t come on to Gus whenever you had the chance!”
Jenny flushed and looked down. She couldn’t help her grin as she peeked through her bangs at Gus. “I guess I kinda did,” she giggled.
“I was always flattered,” Gus said, smiling.
“That’s not all you were,” Lois said, eyeing him sideways. “I remember more than one time little Gus was up and ready after Jenny hugged you!”
“Hey!” Gus said, his eyes wide as he looked at her grinning face.
“I know, I could feel him,” Jenny giggled, then hiccuped. “Oh! That wine is getting to me!”
Jake poured more into her glass, grinning at her. “I love it when she gets tipsy,” he chuckled as he looked at Gus and Lois. They held their glasses out for him to fill.
“So, I guess we get the guys going, huh?” Lois said to Jenny, holding up her wineglass to her. Jenny reached over, clinking it.
“Here’s to getting the guys worked up!” Jenny giggled and took a large sip.
Now we’ll see if they’re interested.
“Oh, I love this song!” Lois said, turning to look inside. “Gus, will you dance with me?” She got up, extending her hand to him. He took it, and let her lead him into the living room.
“Come on, guys,” Lois said, looking over her shoulder. “I want to dance.”
—***—
Jake sighed softly as his feet moved slowly around. Lois pulled him a little closer as she rested her head against his shoulder. She looked over and watched Jenny and Gus as they moved in a similar way.
Gus’s hands held her loosely around the small of her back as Jenny draped her arms around his shoulders. They were looking at each other, their mouths moving occasionally as they spoke quietly.
Lois ran her hands lightly along Jake’s back, and she felt his fingers press into her. She moved her hips slightly, testing the waters. He didn’t disappoint as he softly ground his hardness against her.
She looked up at him, turning them so her back was to the others. “Jake,” she said softly, unheard over the music. “I want something from you, if you’re willing.”
He looked down at her, smiling softly. “What is it?”
“I feel… cheated. We did stuff, but I don’t remember it.”
“I don’t either.”
“I feel like there’s… holes, or gaps, in my memories. It bothers me.”
Jake looked down, his brows furrowed for a moment. He sighed, and said, “So do I. I’m so conflicted.” He chuckled. “I won’t lie, it’s something I’ve always wanted to do with you. You’re amazing.”
