When I arrived, the pair of them had disappeared. I felt a cold fear trickle through my chest as I looked around frantically to find Jo. I calmed down when I saw her and Thomas laughing at the punch table. I felt the burning sensation in my chest again, but this time, it was quelled by an immense wave of sadness that washed over me. I walked over to one of the benches on the side of the wall and sat down my hands covering my face.
I don’t know what’s wrong with me, I should be happy knowing that my sister likes someone that likes her to, but all I felt was a dull sadness in my heart. Well if she can find some fun around here, I shouldn’t moping, I should trying to live my life! This Is Prom, the night of memories and dreams, not some place to be sitting around. I was pulled out of my internal pep talk when I felt someone tap my shoulder. I looked to see a small mousy haired girl who was wearing a small red dress.
“Uh, are you J.P?” She asked timidly shuffling her feet. I smiled at her nervousness and stood up . “Yeah I’m J.P, did you need something?” The brown-haired girl blushed as she stumbled over her words trying to get them out in the right order. “Um, well, You see, I, um, kinda wonder if you, um-” I Tried stifling my laughter as she turned even redder.
I took a quick peek into her mind to see what she was trying to say. “Yes I would love to have this dance with you Ava.” I said with a smile as her jaw dropped and her blush increased to match the color of her dress. “H-how-?” “How did I remember your name? Well it’s kinda hard to forget the girl who’s in two of my classes and printed my fight on the front page of every newspaper in school in big bold letters.” I said with a smirk, pulling most of what I said straight from her memory.
Ava’s ended up doing an impression of a fish out of water as I laughed and took her hand and lead her to the dance floor. After we found a spot where we could move comfortably, she put her hands tightly around my shoulders and mine resting lightly on her waist as we rocked to the slow-paced music. We started talking about school and how stupid most of teachers are until we became comfortable talking to each other. A few minutes later, after the song ended, Ava and I sat down laughing and just enjoying each other’s company.
Finally once we sobered down a bit, ava rested her head on her hand. “To tell you the truth, I didn’t even want to go to prom. All of my friends were going with their boyfriends and I didn’t want to go alone. Then Mark Cramer asked me to come, So I was super excited to come, but as soon we get here, he goes after a group of cheerleaders and forgets about little ol’ me.” I sighed as I felt I could relate to that feeling. “Looks like we’re both having a sucky night, The girl I wanted to ask ended geting asked by someone else, so I had to go with my sister and her date.”
Ava frowned at that. “Wait a minute, isn’t Jo your sister? And she was going with Thomas right?” Now it was my turn to frown. “Yeah why?” Ava shook her head. “They left a few minutes ago, Thomas said that she wasen’t feeling good so he was going to take her home. He got into a car with Derrick and his crew….” I didn’t hear anything else Ava said.
I stood up and walked towards then door, a suprised ava on my tail. “Wait, where are you going?” I didn’t answer her until I got to the parking lot. “I’m going to go kill some basterds and get my sister.” “What? No!” Ava tried to stop me by grabbing my jacket.”The half of the football team went with them! You could get seriously hurt!”
I turned around and grabbed Ava in a tight hug. “Thanks for caring and for the info, but my sister is in danger right now. I have to go.” My tone of voice left no room for an argument as I turned on my heel and bolted down the street. Once I was out of view of the school, I jumped into the air and blasted the air behind me, causing me to soar forward with amazing speed.
I sent out a mental sonar to see If I could find Jo’s mind near me. After a minute, my sonar picked up Jo’s mind, surrounded by twenty or so others which I assumed were the football team in a forrested area about a mile away from here. I growled in rage as I blasted myself forward with even more power, shooting me forward. Hold on Jo, I thought as I raced down the road. I’m coming!
