“25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; 26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, 27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.
29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church: 30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.
31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
33 Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.”
“And chapter 13, found in 1 Corinthians:
1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. 2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. 3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.
4 Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, 5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; 6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; 7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. 9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. 10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. 11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. 12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. 13 And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.”
“In summary: Charity is an unusual word in the King James Bible. It is defined in 1 Corinthians chapter 13; as greater than faith, greater than hope. Without Charity, a person is nothing. Charity is obviously more than just a four letter word spelled: L-O-V-E.
A woman’s love for her child is an instinct that is almost Charity, but Charity isn’t an instinct.
You should ask God Almighty through His only begotten Son Jesus Christ what Charity really is.”
“More than a few people have told me they wished they had heard these passages in school, so they could have been given more consideration in the lives they were living, and could have had better marriages as a result.
Save your program. You would do well to read it many times.”
Pastor Adams proceeded through traditional wedding vows and pronounced us man and wife.
Dad and Mom signed the Marriage License as witnesses, and then Mitzi and I signed as Man and Wife, while Hank and Janice escorted Mitzi’s Parents to the table for their signatures as witnesses. Just for the fun of it, we had Judy and Hank sign on as witnesses.
Pastor Dave Adams signed his designated line. All signatures were dated this day by each individual signatory.
Dad sealed the mail-in portion of the License in a stamped pre-addressed envelope, and handed it to Hank and Janice to be delivered to the Post Office on the way to The Steak and Lobster House for our rehearsal dinner.
Day four continues in “State of Affair 6.”
