Jean nodded. “I can rebuild it. My nephew said as much after we found termite and rot damage in the framing.” She sighed heavily trying to gain some kind of comfort in the knowledge.
Hayden shook his head. “I’m glad no one was hurt from this Ms. Logan. I’ll make my report and put in a request for driveway access to be improved as a safety issue. I’ll also request a widening of the easement for the same.”
I would appreciate that. Jean said in a kind of daze.
Please excuse me. I don’t mean to be rude but I need to file my report. He said as he gestured to getting up out of his seat. Jean nodded as he stood and shook his hand. Alexandra put an arm around Jean’s shoulder to keep her from standing. As Hayden bid his goodbyes, Jean sat dazed for several minutes. Susan came up to them to offer Jean words of regret and sorrow for the loss of the cottage. Susan knew how much Jean loved the little house.
Marcie came out into the room and came straight to Jean. When Jean looked up, Marcie had a puzzled look on her face but didn’t put words to the question Jean knew was lurking about.
Ben has come out of anesthesia and has been asking for Alexandra. She said. Jean looked at Alexandra and saw the woman was blushing a bright red. “You must be her.” She said turning to the redhead. Jean felt a pang of jealousy but quashed it and lifted Alexandra up by the hand holding hers. They followed Marcie through the double doors.
