Your Wife’s Got Needs
It was around one o’clock in the morning, when Carl Harris was awakened from a deep sleep by noises. Obscure utterances that seemed as if they were coming from someone who was in pain. When he would look back on it in hindsight, he still wouldn’t understand why he couldn’t figure out then about the sound.

The reason he thought it strange that he heard someone else besides his mother talking, was his dad, Michael, had left the week before and was going to be out of the country for, at least, the next three to six months due to his job. It was something that his father had been doing for the last three years; the family had grown to accept it as just what had become necessary for him to make a living, and to keep food on their table, amongst other things.
At first, when he took the promotion in his job three years prior, Raven, his wife, had been dead-set against his boss asking him to desert his family for long periods of time. She told him that she didn’t feel up to the task of running a household by herself, as well as taking care of everything else that would need her managerial skills, while he was away from them. Even if it did involve him making a much higher rate of salary.
When Carl sat in his bedroom, listening to them talk about it, he felt kind of like an eavesdropper, but it couldn’t be helped because their bedroom happened to be right next to his. As the middle son listened to his parents going back and forth about whether his dad would take the new higher-paying job or not, he could hear something in his mother’s voice that seemed as if she was pleading with his father to stay.
