She leans over and puts the platter next to the fruit, affording me a nice look at her butt. After my quick glance, I open the crackers and place the sleeves next to everything. “This all looks great, but I don’t know if we will be able to eat all of it.”
Avery laughs. “Yeah. Probably not. But that will just give us snacks for other times.”
“Get comfortable. I’ll grab our drinks.” I return the empty cracker box to the kitchen with the other empty containers. Don’t want to throw anything away yet, will probably need them for storage later.
I grab my wine bucket and put it on the counter next to the refrigerator. From the freezer, I grab some ice and dump a bunch into the bucket. I pull out the wine from the fridge and push it in, so half is under the ice. I reach into the cupboard and pull out two wine glasses before grabbing the bucket in the other hand. I finally return to the living room, both hands full.
Avery looks away from the tv and stands. “Can I help?”
Setting the bucket on the corner of the coffee table, I hand her one of the glasses. “Nope, I’m good.” Putting my glass down, I reach for the wine then pause. “Oh… I forgot.” Laughing, I trot off to the kitchen again. Pulling open a drawer I pull out the forgotten item. I make my way back into the living room, holding up the corkscrew. “Kinda need this.”
Avery chuckles. “Ah, yes you do. Looks like you have a corked bottle instead of a screw top.”
I lift the wine bottle and look at the tv. “Looks like the game is about to start.” I twist in the corkscrew.
“Yes, they are doing some news updates on each team. Sounds like there was a kid that had an injury a few games back on Devin’s team.”
“Oh, man yes. Devin has been keeping an eye on him. And he’s relieved this kid wasn’t hurt worse than he was.” I work the cork out of the bottle then turn to Avery and offer. “It would be fun to catch a glimpse of Devin, even if it’s unlikely.”
“Why unlikely?” She holds out her glass.
“Devin is the strength coach. The camera doesn’t focus on him unless there is an injury.” I pour in the light pink liquid into her glass, then grab my glass and do the same.
I put the bottle back in the bucket and lift my glass to Avery. “To us. To a fun day. And to a good game.” We clink our glasses and then take a sip. The smooth, sweet flavor is wonderful. I grab a cracker, some meat and cheese, then take a bite. I was right, the pairing is perfect. This will be a great day.
The first half of the game goes well. Devin’s team is only a head by three, but their defense has been strong. Avery and I watch and she can even explain some things to me. We snack on our food and drink the wine. We’ve both had two glasses and I am feeling a little bit of buzz.
At half-time, I decide to switch to some water. “I am going to get some water. Would you like some?”
“Yeah, that would be great. I’ll help.” Avery stands right after I do.
“Thank you.” We make our way into the kitchen. “Would you mind grabbing the glasses?” I ask and point over to the cupboard with them.
She veers over to that cabinet, as I go over to the cabinet with the spare bottle of wine. I move it to the fridge, to start cooling off. Then I open the freezer to pull out the ice for our water.
“Oh nice. You have another bottle,” Avery remarks as she comes up next to me and places the glasses on the counter. “That wine is fantastic.”
“It is. Very easy going down. Which is why I need some water.”
“Agreed.” She turns to me, while I am adding ice. “How have you been doing with Devin out of town?”
“I’ve been fine. Miss him tons, but I’m okay. And we talk on the phone.” I add water to both glasses and hand one to her.
“It can be hard to be alone while in a relationship. I understand.”
We head back into the living room. One the of school’s marching band is in the middle of the field. We sit down on the couch and face each other, our knees almost touching. I turn the volume down so we can talk comfortably. “It can be. But after my last relationship, I worked on being okay on my own. And I found that I like my own company. I don’t need anyone, but I sure do like having certain people around.”
“That is great. I’ve had to find myself to.” She puts a hand on my leg and pats.
My body reacts to her touch. An intense desire to lean in for a kiss overwhelms me. Not without Devin. I take a big drink of water and sit back against the couch.
Avery leans back to and scoots over close enough that we are almost touching arms. She turns to face me. “Raya, can I ask you a question?”
“Of course, anything.” I look at her. Does she feel the pull?
“Do you find me attractive?”
“Yes. Of course, look at you.” I sit up and place my empty glass on the table. I’m feeling awfully thirsty all of the sudden. Standing, I grab the wine bucket with the almost empty bottle. I pour the remainer of it in Avery’s glass. “I’ll get us more wine.”
I go into the kitchen and put everything on the counter. What am I doing? I wanted to know if Avery may be interested in me. I go to open the fridge but I feel Avery touch my arm and I freeze. She turns me gently and looks at me with an expression that makes my knees weak.
One of her hands goes into my hair at the nape of my neck and the other finds my waist and pulls me close. “I have been wanting to kiss you since the first time we met.”
“Really?” My mind blanks and all I can think about is her. I look down at her lips, soft and plump, and see her lick them. She leans into me and her lips touch mine. Soft at first and then, as I don’t pull away, she applies more pressure. I wrap my arms around her and lean into the kiss. I had never kissed a woman before and, oh man, do I like it.
I feel her hand lower from my waist to my butt and she grabs it. Then her kisses trail down my neck. “Mmmm…” It feels so good to have her hands holding me and I can only imagine how well we will pair up in the bedroom. “Sorry.” I pull back from Avery, my breath heavy. I didn’t like the space between us but I can’t do this. “Oh man, I’m so sorry. I can’t.”
Avery blushes. “I shouldn’t have.” I see the hurt in her eyes before she looks away.
“Hey, don’t be sorry. I really like kissing you.” I take hold of her wrist and gently tug her so she will look at me.
“Yeah?”
“Yeah. I would really like to do more with you, but I am with Devin. We have a really good thing going, and I won’t mess that up.”
“I get it.” I can see the defeat in her shoulders. “I don’t want to lose a friend. Sorry.”
“Neither do I.” I try to make eye contact. “How would you feel about a threesome?”
That’s when she does look at me. “Threesome?”
I’m not sure what her expression is. I hadn’t asked her if she liked men so I’m not sure if she is open to it or not. Maybe she is just trying to figure out if I am messing with her.
“Go sit and I’ll get the wine. We can talk.”
She makes her way into the living room. I do hope she doesn’t bolt. I really would like more with her, but I also really don’t want to lose a friend. I dump the mostly melted ice in the sink and refresh the bucket with new ice. I take it all back into the living room and return it to the coffee table. Pulling the wine out, I grab the corkscrew and get it open. I top off Avery’s glass and fill mine.
I look at Avery, she is just staring at the tv. The game is back in full swing. I feel horrible, I didn’t want her to feel rejected. I am definitely not rejecting her. On the contrary, I’d like to be with her more.
I pick up her glass and hand it to her. “Hey.” After she takes it, I move some hair behind her ear. “I am serious about the threesome.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah, Devin and I have been talking about it since our conversation about kinks and exploring our bedroom activities.” I can feel my cheeks warm. “And to be honest, I brought up the idea with Devin about a threesome because I had found myself very interested in you.” I smile at her and she smiles back.
She straightens her shoulders. “You are attracted to me?”
“Very much actually. I was going to try to gauge how you may feel about me, to see if I could bring up the threesome.”
Avery laughs. “Well, I gave that information up pretty easily.”
“You did.” I giggle. “And I’m glad.” I take her hand and hold it between us. “So, do you feel one way or the other about a threesome?”
“To tell you the truth, I haven’t been with a man for several years but thinking about it is getting me hot. But I’d like to actually talk to Devin before we jump in the bed.”
“Oh yeah, not a problem. We already had next weekend planned for us to have dinner as a group.”
“That’s right. That works out perfectly.”
I pour Avery and myself another glass when they were empty. I’ve got a good buzz going, and think Avery does as well. Avery and I are back to the relaxed atmosphere. Laughing and just talking about whatever, but now we are touchier. We are holding each other’s hand, placing our hands on each other’s legs. Just those wonderful light grazes that keep you aware that someone you want is nearby.
The game is at the end of the fourth quarter and I still haven’t been able to spot Devin. But that was expected, and for the best. I wouldn’t want to wish someone harm, just so I could see my boyfriend. His team is up by a touchdown, with only a minute left on the clock. Avery and I both cheer as our quarterback runs up the field and makes another touchdown. The game ends 34-20, Devin will be so happy that they won.
I look up at the clock, it is almost 4pm. “I’m not sure about you, but I’m pretty tipsy.” I really don’t want to have Avery driving if she feels like I do.
“I am feeling it too. We did finish off two bottles of wine.” She laughs.
