First Date
This story will seem incredible, but it is true.
I am an accountant by trade and was smart enough to get a job in private industry so I wouldn’t have to lose four months every year doing tax returns. About thirty years ago I lived in the Midwest with a nice job as an accounting supervisor for a hospitality company. I was living in one of those extended living facilities as I was waiting for the workmen to finish building my new townhome.
Since I was tired of the bar scene, (I can’t drink-medication), I decided to join one of those dating services. I had some very nice dates but nothing serious, so I kept trying. I then got a message from the service that I had gotten a like from someone. The next evening I stopped by the agency to check it out.
The woman’s name was Diane, she was about 5’6″ and thin. She had brown eyes and light brown hair and wore big glasses. Her smile if it you could call it that was thin and forced with a thin nose to boot. Her profile said she was a first grade teacher and (warning sign) an ex-nun! Her only interest seemed to be singing in the church folk group. Since profiles don’t tell the whole story I decided to meet her.
The first warning sign was when I called her to set up the date from the agency office and I was told that she expected me to be in my Sunday best. I don’t mind wearing a suit and tie and in fact I look good wearing one so that wasn’t an issue. The next “request” was that I was to pick her up and meet her parents beforehand. I told her that we should come separately so that if it didn’t work out either of us could end the date and leave. As for meeting her parents this wasn’t senior prom. To my surprise she accepted anyway.
The following Saturday night I met Diane at a local eatery, It wasn’t the most expensive place in town, but it wasn’t Denny’s either. She was outside smoking a cigarette ( big turn-off) and I introduced myself.
“Hi Diane my name is Bill.”
“Well you were on time-that’s good.”
I chalked it up to nerves and we went in.
She was wearing a trenchcoat and white pumps, under the coat was a pretty knee length kelly green dress. It seemed to be loose on her but not that bad. The surprise was when she took the coat off.
She was skin and bones, the dress was at least a size and a half too big. It hung on her like a deflated balloon. Once we got to our table and sat down, I could literally see down the front of her dress without trying. She was wearing a ratty old slip and a nondescript white bra.
I knew things weren’t going to get better when the server brought the menus.
“This place is too expensive”.
What did she expect-Burger King?
For the rest of the date- she lined out what she expected from me.
We were to be married within a year, gave a list dividing up the household duties, our kids were to be named Robert and Catherine and we would go to Mass every Sunday. When I tried to tell her about me she blew it off saying once we were married whatever she didn’t like about me she’d change.
She spent the next hour going over all her rules for the marriage while shoveling the bread basket, sugar packets and anything else not nailed down in to her oversized purse. I was getting rather uncomfortable and working on my exit strategy. She gave her final rule for our marriage.
Other than the occasional peck on the cheek, no signs of physical affection were allowed. Physical contact was limited to baby making. She would get naked on the bed and spread her legs. I would “prepare” myself, enter her and when done pull out. No foreplay or after sex cuddling. Our kids would have strict discipline .
At this point dinner was over, I thanked her and left. Before I left her she said I had passed all her tests and was husband worthy. I said nothing but goodnight. I also paid the bill.
The next day I called the agency and explained the date and there was no way I would go out with her again. The counselor at the other end sighed and said this wasn’t the first time. I said she needs to get some help so she could find some happiness in her life.
I hope she got that help and is happy.
